Our history

In 1946, the Ateliers Émile Couture, specializing in foundry and in mechanical welding and machining, establish themselves in the heart of downtown Chicoutimi. But the true origins of Saguenay Foundry date all the way back to 1902.

img_histo_1In 1963, under the management of Industries Couture Ltée, the foundry moves to a new site, where it still stands today.

1980: the foundry is bought from Industries Couture, and Saguenay Foundry is officially born. Seven years later, it shifts from cupola furnace technology to the induction melting process.

Until 1998, Saguenay Foundry continues to grow thanks to the successive implementation of two generations of data processing systems overseeing all stages of production.

In 2002, Saguenay Foundry embarks on a major technological and ecological move by replacing the molding sand binder with a furfurylic alcohol based furanic resin. In addition to offering superior performance, the use of this new binder makes it possible to recycle up to 90% of the sand in our molds.

Nowadays, Saguenay Foundry's ongoing modernization continues with the implementation of a new fluid dynamics analysis software that will help us design more efficient castings, enabling us to obtain even more consistency in our products. This constant pursuit of excellence makes it possible for Saguenay Foundry to offer products and castings that meet the requirements of our clients to perfection.
